A recent investigation has uncovered shocking details about the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited’s (NNPCL) plans for the Port Harcourt Refinery, which has already cost Nigerian taxpayers $2 billion. Sources close to the matter allege that the company intends to convert the refinery into a blending plant for substandard petroleum products from Russia and Malta.
According to insiders, this move is a deliberate attempt to rival the newly operational Dangote Refinery and sustain the fraudulent fuel subsidy regime that benefits a powerful cabal. The sources claim that key players involved in the fuel subsidy scam are driving this new approach.
“The NNPCL has perfected plans to commence operations at the Port Harcourt refinery, but what most people don’t know is that the operations would be centered around blending substandard products sourced from Russia and Malta,” a source revealed.
Engineers working at the refinery corroborated this information, stating that the top management of NNPCL is behind the conversion. They emphasized that the products from Dangote Refinery are of better quality and capable of meeting domestic needs, which would put the subsidy cabal out of business.
“This is nothing but economic sabotage,” an engineer said. “The implication is that the Port Harcourt refinery won’t be able to refine our crude because of the new configuration, leading to continued importation of petroleum products and subsidy payments.”
International interests are reportedly aiding the NNPCL in this conversion, providing necessary support to actualize the plan. A top NNPCL staffer confirmed that the refinery’s operations would commence soon, but the products would do more harm than good.
Critics have described the NNPCL’s actions as “devilish” and “insensitive” to Nigeria’s economic situation, questioning whether the company’s leadership truly cares about the country’s well-being.
The NNPCL’s previous assurances regarding the Port Harcourt Refinery’s operational status have proven futile. Efforts to contact the Federal Government-owned company have been unsuccessful.
As the controversy unfolds, Nigerians demand transparency and accountability from the NNPCL, seeking to protect their interests and prevent further economic sabotage.
“This is the height of insensitivity and wickedness,” a source said. “Most times I wonder if those at the helm of affairs of the NNPCL care about the economic situation in the country. Their actions can only be described as devilish.”
Efforts to reach the company failed as they failed to respond to queries tweeted at the company’s official X handle after over ten hours.
